Bow Setup & Assembly

Short answer: a proper bow setup means your draw length, draw weight, rest, sight, and peep sight are all matched to you specifically — not just bolted on out of the box. It's the foundation everything else builds on.

Technician assembling a compound bow on the shop workbench

A bow doesn't shoot straight off the shelf. Whether it's brand new, purchased used, or handed down, every bow needs to be set up around the person shooting it. Skipping this step is the most common reason new archers struggle with accuracy and consistency.

We start by measuring your draw length and draw weight, then install and align your rest, sight, and peep sight, sync the cam timing, and confirm proper arrow flight with paper tuning before you ever take it home.

Common Questions

Do I need a full setup if I bought my bow used?+

Yes — a used bow should always be checked and set up around you specifically, even if the previous owner had it tuned. Draw length, draw weight, and rest position all need to match the new shooter.

How long does a new bow setup take?+

It depends on the bow and current shop volume, especially during the weeks leading into hunting season. Give us a call and we can give you a better idea of current turnaround.

Can I set up my own bow at home?+

Some basic maintenance is fine to do yourself, but initial setup involves press work, precise measurements, and tuning that's difficult to get right without shop equipment. We're happy to walk you through what you can handle yourself versus what's worth bringing in.
